Shaping the Industry - Bending Rolls

With many machines, such as press brakes and laser cutters, the old saying that ‘what does a lot does a little’ normally applies. However with bending rolls this rule doesn’t work; a heavy set of plate rolls with a large top roll, won’t roll a small diameter cylinder in light gauge material. For this reason a fabrication workshop doing a lot of rolling may actually have several sets of bending rolls to meet all the requirements which come through the door.
Our comprehensive range of models includes;
- Manual, motorised and hydraulic models
- 2, 3 and 4 roll designs
- Asymmetrical and pyramid roll configuration
- Single pre-bending or double pre-bending operation
- Top slip roll or hydraulic drop ends for part removal
- Manual, NC and CNC controls
Industries we have worked with over the years include;
- Ducting and ventilation (HVAC)
- Architectural metalwork
- Tank and vessel manufacturing
- Aerospace
- Nuclear
- Process engineers
- Rolling stock manufacturers
- Ship building
Here is an example of a plate bending machine from 1884 as featured in The Engineer magazine from the February of that year. Modern plate rolls have built on this design by introducing pre-bending on the machine as well as a fourth roll keeping the material pinched at all times. You can view our current four roll hydraulic models here.
